Bloom 2017 Small Garden - Bloom Dementia-Friendly Garden

Dementia can bring difficulties with short-term memory, comprehension, orientation, spatial awareness, visual perception, and mobility. These difficulties are gently accommodated in the ‘Bloom Dementia-Friendly Garden’, where a clever use of layout, color, planting and customized garden fittings creates an attractive, safe and therapeutic outdoor space. It is designed to tap into a person’s retained skills, abilities, interests, and memories.

    This conceptual rose garden investigates how we perceive and engage with the use of color in a garden. It will feature a sculptural kaleidoscope at its heart, a portal from which to investigate the vibrant arrangement of plant colors and complementary pigments of Cuprinol paints displayed throughout the garden, which together creates a playful and surreal visual experience for the visitor.

            Teagasc, in association with the suicide prevention charity Pieta House, are delighted to be exhibiting a show garden for the first time at this year’s annual Bloom event in the Phoenix Park in Dublin from Thursday 1st to Monday 5th June.

                  Forest Walks for Green Ribbon Campaign - Coillte

                  The IFA, in association with See Change, Coillte and Mental Health Ireland, have organized a series of six forest walks around the country as part of the Green Ribbon Campaign for mental health.  At the launch of the walks, Minister McEntee said that the Let's Talk and Walk events are a great initiative to help get people talking openly about mental health problems.

                    Statement on behalf of the Minister for Agriculture Food & Marine, Michael Creed TD on recent Gorse Fires

                    Minister for Agriculture Food & Marine, Michael Creed TD and Minister for Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural & Gaeltacht Affairs, Heather Humphreys TD wish to remind landowners and the public that it is an offence under Section 40 of the Wildlife Act, 1976 (amended by Section 46 of the Wildlife Act, 2000) to burn, from 1st March to 31st August in any year, any vegetation growing on any land not then cultivated. Individuals who are found to burn vegetation within that prohibited period are liable to prosecution by An Garda Síochána or by the National Parks and Wildlife Service.
