Total Produce takes over Indigo Fruits

Irish company, Total produce officially took over French company Indigo Fruits on 28th of June. The French company which has offices in Vitrolles as well as Rungis will now go by the name of Total Produce Indigo.

Until late 2011 the French importing company was part of Citronas, a subsidiary of the Dutch Royal Fruitmasters, which consolidated their activities in 2011 and relinquished several activities that were not considered strategic. "It was possible for us to takeover Indigo Fruit with borrowed money, which took place in November," said David Benezra, Managing Director of Inidigo.

Since its inception, the traded tonnage of Indigo Fruit has increased reaching 32,000 tonnes today with a turnover of between 25 and 30 million. In addition, the company has specialized in specific products from overseas. "Argentine pears represent approximately 20% of sales and for several seasons we have been the largest importer of Chilean fruit in France," said Benezra.

As well as Indigo Fruit, Andre Groupo Arc Eurobanan from Spain, Total Produce BV (formerly Velleman & Tas) from the Netherlands, the Italianse Peviani and Capespan from South Africa come under the Irish Total Produce, which annually distributes around 250 million boxes of fruit and vegetables with a turnover of 2.5 billion Euro.
