Minister Coveney Launches Public Consultation Process on Climate Change Discussion Document for the Agriculture Sector

The Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Simon Coveney TD, recently launched a public consultation process on a discussion document in preparation for the agriculture and forestry sector mitigation plan.

Minister Coveney said "My Department, its agencies and industry are committed to promoting the long term environmental sustainability of Irish agriculture. The sustainable intensification of food production requires us to develop cost effective production systems, which improve competitiveness, profitability and product quality, while minimising the impact on the environment. The discussion document is now available on the Department's website and I invite the public and stakeholders to get involved in this process, and to make their submissions over the coming eight weeks".

The Department is also preparing a discussion document for a sectoral adaptation plan, and it is intended that this will also be open to public consultation in the coming weeks.

The mitigation plan discussion document is available on the Department's website.

Submissions can be sent by email to mailto:climatechange@agriculture.gov.ie

The deadline for receipt of submissions is Monday 23rd March 2015.
