Booking Opens for the 2012 RIAI Annual Conference
- 03 September 2012

Book now your place for the 2012 RIAI Annual Conference at the RDS, Dublin. The conference has been condensed into two days to minimise cost and lessen time out of the office. It opens on Sunday 23 September with a keynote lecture by David Chipperfield and continues on Monday, 24 September. The overarching theme of “Architecture – An Ethical Practise” is core to each of the sessions and we strongly recommend attendance over the two days to get the most from the event
Delegates attending both conference sessions on Sunday 23 and Monday 24 September are entitled to 10Structured CPD Points. Unstructured CPD Points (Selfdefined 1 Point per hour) are available for attendance at the Architecture Expo exhibition.
Michelle Fagan says: “Architecture both defines and reflects the culture of a society, it is important and so the process of making it is profoundly important. Architecture matters, it affects us profoundly. As Winston Churchill says: 'We make our buildings and afterwards they make us’.” The RIAI President has set the theme Architecture - An Ethical Practise: “Our complex role as a profession is to balance the concerns of the client, the end users and the general public. This role requires judgement and an understanding of responsibility. We walk a line that requires understanding from the parties to the contract to ensure success. Architecture has always been an ethical profession and it is time to reaffirm this crucial compass in these uncertain times. We must fully understand and embrace our role and all the potential that it brings for architects to make architecture that is in and of our society. In this time of change and reflection we have the opportunity to reassert the ethical practise of Architecture and to recognise and celebrate its importance to society. This conference sets about looking at the motivation for practice, for building and for educating architects and looks to provoke opportunities to fulfil the potential of architecture”, concludes the RIAI President.
The conference has adopted three main themes: The Role of the Architect; Practice Models and Architecture of the Future; and Education of the Architect. Keynote Speakers are the internationally renowned architect David Chipperfield and Laura Lee. There will be a range of other speakers including Irish and international commentators, economists and architects.
Coinciding with the RIAI Annual Conference will be Architecture Expo - a new show by an experienced team, exclusively targeted at Ireland’s leading industry specifiers.
