HortiTrends Weekly Comment & News Digest September 14th
- 14 September 2012

In this weeks newsletter it will be hard to miss the many articles that are based on the many seminars and workshops that will be given at next weeks Horticulture 2012 trade show that takes place next Wednesday at the Greenmount College grounds in Northern Ireland. Kieran Lavelle has been pleasantly surprised at the amount of exhibitors (100 and counting) who are coming from across Ireland north and south plus the UK and Europe. They are targeting the 1.8 million population base of NI. It has the makings of a great day as a showcase of Northern Ireland horticulture. Be sure to drop by the HortiTrends stand. We will be arriving to the event direct from GLEE which is a must for all 'Garden Centre & Plant Retailers' and the various sectors of horticulture servicing them. GLEE has finally realised that is is not a nursery show and is now focusing on its core audience. If you can't make it over to hear the wise words of John Stanley you can always see him at his upcoming workshop for Retail Excellence Ireland.
There was a good attendance from Bord Bia and garden centre's as you will see in Report on Garden Centre Congress 2012 in Germany by Rachel Doyle They will be kept busy making preperations for the next congress that will take place in Ireland in 2014.
O'Dowd Roses 'Looking Good Promotion' for Autumn Gardening Campaign is now underway and they are hoping that the overall campaign will deliver real results for the struggling sector by extending the gardening activity further into the season. It will be up to the trade themselves to make this successful so get out there and talk to your local media to drive new business to landscapers, designers, nurseries and garden centre's.
Also look out for the upcoming Irish Florist Guild Competition and Tradeshow. The group are really starting to come together as a voice for the florist sector in Ireland. The only surprise is that they were not at the table for the above 'Autumn Campaign' promotion as they represent a significant section of Irish horticulture.
