Outdoor Sports Facility Officially Opens In Tyrone Area

Rural Development Minister Michelle O’Neill has officially opened a new purpose built outdoor sports facility in the rural west Tyrone area of Aghyaran. Aghyaran Development Association received funding from the Rural Development Programme (RDP) amounting to £136,500 to build the facility to serve the rural Aghyaran community.

Speaking at the opening the Minister said: "Projects like this recreation/multi-use community facility are contributing to the cohesion of the wider rural society. The completed project provides a facility for use by all sections of the local rural community. This project received RDP under a specific measure entitled 'Basic Services for the Economy and the Rural Population'. This measure is designed to help increase the attractiveness of rural areas through supporting the improvement of basic services, such as the improvement of cultural and leisure activities and related small-scale infrastructure such as this project in Aghyaran. Since the Programme started a total of £3.3million has been spent on 129 projects across the north and the new facility that I have had the pleasure in opening today is an excellent example of this funding being put to good use."
