Horkan's Chain to Open New Dublin Store in Early 2012

horkans

The Horkan family continue their expansion drive and will be opening up on the site of the old Paul Sexton Garden in Cornelscourt Dublin. We have known for a while that an announcement was imminent but we sat on this news item until everything was signed and sealed as the opportunity to lease the the Paul Sexton centre was advertised on HortiTrends.

The family have been looking for suitable locations around Ireland for a while and this new centre might well be the launching pad for a number of new centres in major towns and citys in Ireland. The lease starts on 1st January 2012. They have scheduled two months for refurbishment with an estimated opening date of circa 1 March 2012. With four stores in the west it's not difficult to see a similar number of new Horkan centres or more opening throughout Ireland in key locations, Who know's, maybe by the time Dobbies make it into Ireland we will have our own homegrown Irish based chain ready and waiting to take them on. It creates a new sales opportunity for existing and new suppliers alike. Paraic Horkan from Horkans said today “we are delighted to be given the opportunity to open our new Boutique garden centre in Dublin, we are committed to delivering excellent standards and customer service and continuing the family business ethos set by Paul Sexton for over forty years in this location and we will continue to look for new opportunities to expand the Horkans Lifestyle & Garden Centre brand throughout the country.”

Horkans group also own and run a chain of Pet Stores, located in Athlone , Galway, Castlebar , and Dublin under their own Irish brand Petworld. See www.thepetpeople.ie

You can learn more about the company and their business here.

Background to business

Horkan's Garden Centre has its origins in large family owned grocery stores on Spencer Street and Newton Street Castlebar. In 1990 a decision was taken to refocus the business as an in town garden centre due to the emerging growth of this sector. Two of the family members had qualified in horticulture and the remaining three had qualified in business related skills.Their joint effort has been very successful with HGC establishing itself as one of Ireland's leading lifestyle & garden centres. Horkan's have established three lifestyle & garden centres in Turlough Castlebar, Bundoran Road Sligo, and Oranmore Galway. Horkan's Centres have a strong focus on Quality Irish Grown Plant while also offering a unique range of products including quality gifts, garden ornaments, water features, quality furniture & barbeques and garden products.

We will also be announcing and advertising a similar new business opportunity in the next few days so keep an eye out! It's the opportunity to open horticulture concession businesses under license in a high traffic location close to Dublin. Intrigued?
