hortibiz_almeriagreenhouse

The financial results for the agricultural sector in 2011 in Spain, published by the Ministry of Agriculture, are not encouraging. Agricultural income in general dropped by 4.1 % in real terms.

Input prices have increased substantially in 2011: fertilizers +20.1 %, energy in general +17.7 % and diesel oil +14.3 %. On the other hand, prices of horticultural products and fruits, which in a substantial fraction are obtained in greenhouses, dropped by 14.3 %.

Another recent report of the ministry of agriculture shows that land prices for protected horticultural crops went down by 4.1 % in 2010. This is a result of declining income expectations and lack of alternative usage of the land. According to the report, land prices will show further decreases in 2011.
