The Secret Garden Centre Shortlisted for UK Garden Retail Awards

The Garden Retail Awards, presented by the horticulture industry's leading business and professional magazine, Garden Retail, are now in their sixth year as part of Haymarket Business Media - and in 2012 are set to create an even bigger impact across the garden retail sector following the judging of the Garden Retail Awards 2012, The Secret Garden Centre has been voted a finalist in the category Greenest Garden Centre.

Awarded to the garden centre that demonstrates the best attitude to environmental awareness within its operation. This could, for example, relate to peat use, or energy or water conservation, or any other environmental factor, including waste management, recycling, composting, etc. Owner Brian Paterson commented, "Hundreds of people enter these awards every year, and being selected as a finalist not just from Irish garden centres but also UK ones, is a reflection of our dedication to running the greenest garden centre that we can. We're delighted and proud to have been recognised in this way." The Awards presentation will take place on Wednesday 7th November 2012 at the Grosvenor House, Park Lane.

The garden centre, which recently celebrated its tenth birthday, has constantly strived to bring environmental issues into the home gardening market - unlike most garden centres they stock primarily organic garden products, and promote organic and wild-life -friendly gardening practise through their many free gardening workshops and demonstrations. There is a bee garden to promote bee-friendly planting, complete with a working bee-hive, and free range hens and ducks wander amongst the plants and customers. .

Technology and social media is becoming increasingly important for any business, with more people being guided in their buying decisions by bloggers rather than friends opinions, blogging is a considerably influential tool in word of mouth marketing. The Secret Garden was nominated for an award in the The Irish Blog Awards, and from over 2000 nominations, was selected as a finalist in the Best Blog of an SME category.
