The Willow this Winter by Rónán Ó Snodaigh

That willow isn't going to sleep anytime soon
He likes the glow of the winter moon
Looks like he'll be staying up late with the lads again,
Playing cards and counting the stars

The ash is keeping his hand close to his chest
I suspect he might fold early this year
He was up til all hours last year
Out stayed them all and never played his hand

They were betting on a big spring
But sure he never woke up til half way through summer
The rest of them were all watered fed and months ahead
By the time his buds even blinked

'Last to bed, last to be fed' said the Oak
and he's been known to give the ash a run
for his money whenever he felt like
making a splash and earning himself a wind fall

The willow will wilt all right
But not without a fight
And not until it is well past time to say good night
