FOOD & DRINK AWARDS
We had a great night out last Thursday at the Food & Drink Awards. Keelings came out on top for development of the Keelings Soft Fruit Brand. Ornamental horticulture has access to many of the branding opportunities that Food & Drink have, such as the very successful 'Brand Forum' run by Bord Bia. A visiting Spanish intern at the event was amazed that the minister for agriculture Simon Coveney was not surrounded by bodyguards or handlers and was so accessible to the public. Bord Bia CEO Aidan Cotter was also full of praise for the Minister's work on 'Origin Green' and 'Food Harvest 2020' and was of the opinion that no minister before, had done as much to put Irish agriculture and horticulture in front of a worldwide audience. It can't be argued that this Minister Coveney is not working his socks off and really believes that agriculture and food is an important ingredient in a recovering and sustainable economy. The headline talk at the event was all about Social Media and its power to make of break a brand. Social Media gives you the opportunity to hold an authentic conservation with existing and potential new customers and if you still think its purely a sales tool then think again. The bar was sponsored by Absolut Vodka who in their won words "put the ART in pARTy" and were the reason why the newsletter did not go out on time. Those foodies really know how to party.
