Dunderry Park Recruiting Volunteers for Its Garden Project

Are you interested in being creative outdoors? Do you have a background in horticulture, carpentry, masonry, permaculture, DIY? Dunderry Park is recruiting volunteers for its Garden Project!

Dunderry Park is a 200 year old restored Georgian residence set on 25 acres of wooded parkland and a lake. It is located in the historic Boyne Valley, Co. Meath, close to the sacred sites of Tara, Newgrange, Sliabh na Cailleach and Uísneacht. The centre has a history of bringing people from all walks of life together by running courses in yoga, meditation, dance therapy, hosting various healing retreats. It is also the venue for Irelands newest 3 day folk festival; Spirit of Folk, which runs every September. All of these are run by the Oaktree Charitable Trust, a not-for-profit organisation set up to help people deal with traumas such as addictions, rape, violence and now, in co-operation with The Tara Centre, victims of the Omagh bombing. This new project seeks to bring people from all walks of life together by running volunteer days to restore areas of Dunderry Park starting with a beautiful and secluded garden, event and meditation space.

Our vision for this space seeks to incorporate a classic pristine garden image with innovitive sustainable DIY features. We seek to include many species of plants and flowers alongside art pieces and brickwork bbq which all add to the ambiance of the garden. Once finished, the garden will be a place for people to come and enjoy but will also hold other functions including a Meditation area and Outdoor Cinema.

Volunteer days will take place one day per month starting in February and gives people an opportunity to come together and help create a space that can then be enjoyed by all. We are looking for Volunteers who are happy to be outside, not afraid to get their hands dirty, enjoy group activities as well as solo projects and are interested in being involved in all aspects of the Garden Project from clearing and cleaning, planning and design, repairs and creating features from scratch.
