 Exotic orchids

Discover some of the rarest and most exotic orchids from across the globe at the RHS London Orchid & Botanical Art Show, 12–13 April 2013. The RHS, the UK's leading gardening charity, will host highly collectable orchids alongside international works of botanical art.

From amateurs to specialist growers, the best orchid exhibitors from around the world will be selling a wide range of species and hybrids. Akerne Orchids of Belgium, Ecuagenera of Ecuador and Orchis Floriculturing of Taiwan are just a few of the international orchid growers taking part.

David McLaughlin, RHS Horticulturist and orchid specialist, says: 'The RHS London Orchid & Botanical Art Show is unique in that it is the first international orchid show of the year in the UK and provides access to a wide range of high-quality orchids that aren't commonly available, yet are attractive and easy to grow.'

What's on in 2013

For visitors who want to learn more, there are informative 'Culture Talks' on both days. In addition, the exhibitors are experienced growers and happy to share their knowledge.

Laurence Hobbs will be displaying exotic species, while new discoveries will be on show from Equatorial Plants. Hardy orchids, suitable for a range of growing conditions will be available at Heritage and McBean's Orchids, and even miniature species will be available to buy from the Columbian Orquideas del Valle.

Hear stories of adventure from students in the Writhlington School Orchid Project, who travelled to Rwanda in February to help schools learn about horticulture, from laboratory production of orchids from seed through to exploring the Nyungwe mountain reserve. Their exhibit will feature some of the key orchids of the Sikkim Himalaya.

Beautiful botanical art

Botanical artists from across the world prepare to exhibit at the annual RHS London Orchid & Botanical Art Show, 12–13 April 2013, with a preview evening on 11 April. Some of the finest botanical artists in the world will be exhibiting, and the show provides a rare opportunity to see and purchase new work of this standard.

Interest in the prestigious show has hit an all-time high this year, and nearly 30 artists from 10 countries from as far afield as Australia, Thailand, South Korea and the USA will be exhibiting, hoping to win a coveted Gold Medal. Elizabeth Koper, RHS Lindley Library Outreach Librarian and Secretary to the RHS Picture Forum, says: 'The RHS London Orchid & Botanical Art Show is unique in that it provides art lovers with a chance to see originals by some of the best botanical artists working today.'

Visitors to the show will also have a chance to see living specimens of some of rarest species of exotic orchids from across the globe.
