Council Hosts Exhibition Of National Landscape Award Winners

Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council has hosted the exhibition of the National Landscape Award Winners. President of the Irish Landscape Institute, Maryann Harris, said: "The Irish Landscape Institute celebrates the twentieth anniversary this year. Since its founding the ILI has raised standards of landscape design in Ireland. We are also launching the first National Award in Ireland for Green Infrastructure as part of the National Landscape Awards 2012. The Institute is committed to pioneering new approaches in Ireland to environmental planning and design."

There were 8 categories of award in the design competition that attracted over 50 entries. The Award Winners are:

Green Infrastructure Award:

Dominick Comerford - New Boardwalk and Bridge Destination Carrick on Shannon

Public Realm Award:

Atkins in association with Dun Laoghaire Rathdown Architects Department-Metals Project Phase 1, Dun Laoghaire

Urbanism and Landscape Planning Award:

Brady Shipman Martin - Tramore Valley Master Plan Commendation

Commercial and Institutional Award:

Bernard Seymour Landscape Architects - Burlington Plaza

Stephen Diamond Landscape Architects - St.Benedict's National School Dublin - Commendation

Private Spaces Award:

MTM Landscape Architects -Residence Newtownanner Tipperary- Commendation

Landscape Heritage & Conservation Award:

Mitchell + Associates - Giant's Causeway Visitor Facilities

URS Ireland - Tralee Bay Wetlands Centre - Commendation

Landscape Research Award:

Dermot Foley Landscape Architects - The Relationship Between Landscape Architecture and Landscape Design

Student Award:

Elaine Cooke - Wasteland To Heartland

President's Award:

Great Western Greenway (Mayo County Council)

Announcing the President's Award, Maryann Harris praised the Great Western Greenway as a project which "has raised public awareness of the potential of green infrastructure and has generated economic and tourism benefits for a region which is now realising the assets of its landscape. We need to do more of this in Ireland".
