The Netherlands: Flower Sales Down Because of Coldness
- 16 May 2013
The cold weather in April in many parts of Europe has not been good for the prices of flowers. According to FloraHolland the turnover of flowers was 3,8 % lower than in april last year. The average price was € 0.177, which was 1.3 cent lower, while the supply was 3% higher.
Another reason for the lower flower sales was that Easter was early this year. After this holiday the sales of flowers and plants goes down. According to the trade board HBAG, the Dutch export of flowers in April was 3.4% lower than in the same month last year. But the export to the UK and Russia was slightly higher than last year.
The Dutch export of plants was 21% lower. To the main export destination Germany, the export was making a nose dive with a 30% decrease.
