O'Neill Reminds Woodland Owners to Apply for Felling Licences

Minister O’Neill said: “The Forestry Act established the principle that tree felling should be controlled to make sure that woodlands will be replanted after harvesting. A key part of the process for granting a licence is consideration of proposals in a felling management plan that shows how the felled area will be regenerated.”

The Minister continued: “The Forest Service is committed to helping woodland owners and the timber industry embrace the new legislative arrangements. Comprehensive guidance about the licence application process is available on the Forest Service website, and on request in hard copy. The Forest Service will administer felling licence applications through a dedicated Felling Licence Branch who are available to assist with queries and support, particularly during this early period of implementation.”

There is no charge for a felling licence and it will last for at least five years.

Application forms, guidance and advice are available from the Department’s website or by contacting Felling Licence Branch, Forest Service, Inishkeen House, Killyhevlin Industrial Estate, Enniskillen, Co. Fermanagh BT47 4EJ (Telephone 028 6634 3034 or email Felling.Licence@dardni.gov.uk).
