Uniplumo Contract with Tesco Extended to €5m a Year

Swords-based specialist horticultural grower Uniplumo said today that it has expanded its partnership with Tesco to an annual €5m. Uniplumo, which has been supplying Bord Bia quality-assured plants to the retailer since 1997, has been in operation for over 30 years and has seven acres of heated glasshouse production near Swords. It supplies over 100 Tesco stores across the country.

“Tesco’s ongoing commitment to our partnership supports 45 full time and 30 seasonal staff,” said the company’s general manager, Tom Summerville. “It allows us to plan and build our business and is a real vote of confidence in a difficult economic climate.”

"Working with and developing more business opportunities for local suppliers like Uniplumo is a key part of our buying strategy,” said Kate Farrell, Tesco horticulture buyer. “We are delighted to expand our 16-year partnership with Uniplumo and we look forward to bringing Irish plants of the highest quality to our customers across the country this summer.”

The Irish-grown plants are hand-picked at Uniplumo for delivery fresh to store each day. Irish garden favourites that are bought by Tesco each year include around 300,000 primroses, 100,000 potmums and 140,000 geraniums.
