French Horticulture Students Seeking Work Experience in Ireland

Dear Madam / Dear Sir,

For over two decades, the College of Horticulture and Agriculture of Coutances (Normandy – France) has been sending its students for on-the-job learning experience abroad and this year again, the "Lycée Nature de Coutances" is looking for summer placements for its forty 1st Year HND students (18-22 yrs old) in Horticulture (Parks & Gardens, Amenity Horticulture, Greenkeeping, Landscaping, Garden Design, Fruit and Vegetable Growing etc...) and five 1st Year BTEC students (16-18 yrs old) in Countryside Management and Environmental Studies.

Teagasc has launched its newly developed Open Access repository, which makes Teagasc research papers freely available online. In the context of scientific research dissemination, 'Open Access' refers to the free availability on the public Internet of scholarly articles published in an electronic format, permitting any user to read and re-use the content, provided only that the author is properly acknowledged and cited.

Having spent the best part of 200 hours over a distance of more than 1,250 miles sat in the seat of an Etesia H124D mower I have more than a passing interest in how the machine was made. So I was pleased to be invited to last week's visit to the Etesia and Wolf factories in Wissenbourg north east France for a tour of the manufacturing process.

Horticultural Retailers VAT Obligations - Revenue

1 Introduction
All retailers of horticultural products, including garden centres and flat-rate farmers whose annual retail sales of horticultural products and other goods exceed or are likely to exceed the VAT registration threshold €75,000 are obliged to register and account for VAT. 'Horticultural products' for this purpose means non-food products of a type listed at paragraph 2. 'Other goods' means goods other than agricultural produce.

QEDTraining, as part of the government training programme Momentum, has just launched a unique course called "Don't Just Get a Job, Build a Business" that that will help people who are currently unemployed set up their own business in 2013. QEDTraining are currently recruiting 90 people to participate in the course who will set up a new business within 90 days of starting this programme! Starting in January, there will be four courses taking place in Dublin, Wicklow and Cork over the next 6 months.

O'Neill Sadness at Death of Minister McEntee

Minister for Agriculture and Rural Development Michelle O'Neill has expressed sadness at the sudden death of Fine Gael Minister of State Shane McEntee. Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture and Food, with responsibility for Food, Food Safety and Horticulture, Mr McEntee was 56 and married with three children. A farmer, he lived at Castletown near Navan in Co Meath.
