Concept Show Garden at Bloom 2015 - Our Origin is Green
The garden concept for ‘Our Origin is Green’ has developed from a Celtic knot design of two dogs found in the Book of Durrow. Celtic design has been a source of inspiration for designers and crafts people for many centuries. The application to Landscape has often been through a rustic style. The purpose of this garden is to demonstrate Celtic design through the use of modern Irish materials.

Jessica Evans is the Chartered Institute of Horticulture Young Horticulturist of the Year 2015
Jessica Evans, Head Gardener at Tintinhull Gardens, National Trust won the much sought after and nationally acclaimed Chartered Institute of Horticulture’s 2015 Young Horticulturist of the Year competition (YHoY), at the Grand Final held at the National Trust’s Barrington Court property in Somerset on 9 May. Jessica, representing the South West Branch of the Institute (CIH), won the coveted £2,500 Percy Thrower Travel Bursary, provided by the Shropshire Horticultural Society. The Bursary enables the competition winner to undertake a trip, anywhere in the world, to study a subject related to their chosen field of horticulture.

Todays Bord Bia Horticulture Awards Winners will be celebrating the achievement with their staff, while the marketing savvy businesses among them, will be promoting their win to existing and potential new customers. The awards are coming on the back of some positive figures - Bord Bia Research Finds Irish people Spend €631 Million on Their Gardens. We can also attest to this growth, based on the number of new jobs that are we are advertising on Jobsinhorticulture.ie These new positions are being led by the landscape sector, followed by garden retail along with increasing numbers of nurseries.

One event we look forward to every year is the Rentes Spring Show. On the nursery at any one time you will find 200,000 plants. In the covered area at the show there will be over 15,000 plants on display consisting of 1000 individual varieties and sizes. It takes over 100 man days to change the dispatch area in to a plant retail parkland paradise.

Get Ready for the Last Registration Deadline for Chemicals
All chemical substances produced or imported in the European Economic Area between 1 and 100 tonnes a year need to be registered by 31 May 2018 with the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA). This is the last deadline for existing chemicals under the REACH Regulation. It will complete the gathering of data on substances manufactured or used in Europe, and will ultimately improve human health and the environment.

Potential of Cultural Heritage for Regional Development Outlined
The role of cultural heritage in regional and local development was outlined by international expert Professor Claude Dubé at a seminar in Galway City yesterday, 14 May 2015. The seminar also included the Irish launch of an innovative €1.6 million cultural tourism project called Craft Reach funded by the EU Northern Periphery and Arctic (NPA) programme.

Rentes Plant Fair was a great success for the company once again. Increased turnout of retail plant buyers along with a definite increase in the size of orders was evident over the two days. The Rentes family and team were out in force assisting buyers as usual. While a major sales event for the company, it is also a big social and networking opportunity for plant buyers, the Rentes family and staff.
