Title: Forestry Survey and Business Research Services
Abstract: WESTERN FORESTRY Co-op was established in 1985 and has since planted and manages over 18,000 hectares of forestry for farmers in the West and North West. The cooperative is farmer owned with over 3,000 members and is committed to giving farmers and land owners independent advice and professional forestry services. Western Forestry Cooperative wishes to engage the services of an organisation to carry out a research project that involves a detailed survey and analysis of the situation of forestry owners in Co. Sligo with a crop at or near thinning stage. The overall aim of this research project is to carry out a scoping and feasibility study into the market viability options of forestry thinning's for wood fuel for large scale CHP plant customers. The Cooperative sees opportunities to become a supplier of wood fuel to large scale CHP plants that are being installed in the Western region of Ireland. To this end it wants to establish the feasibility of setting up a wood fuel supply business using its member's plantations as the fuel source.
