Trees in the Modern City – A New Guide for Decision Makers

Trees

The Trees and Design Action Group (TDAG) has developed a new guide for decision makers that focuses on urban trees... Trees in the Townscape, a Guide for Decision Makers takes a 21st-century approach to urban trees designed to keep pace with and respond to the challenges urban environments face. It offers 12 action-oriented principles that cover planning, design, works and management issues that must be addressed for maximum economic, social and environmental returns.

The guide features more than 30 case studies, giving insight into best practice from projects at home and abroad, and its development was based on more than 40 interviews with civil engineers, designers, ecologists and other professionals involved in urban design.

Nine local councils, two housing associations and the Chair of the Forestry Commission have already endorsed the guide, which is free to download at http://www.tdag.org.uk/trees-in-the-townscape.html
