Title: GIS Mapping of Archaeological Excavation Reports Dublin City – A Pilot Project
Published: 13/06/2012
Published by: Dublin City Council
Deadline: 04/07/2012
Abstract: Dublin City Council, in association with the Heritage Council and the Department of Arts Heritage and the Gaeltacht, wishes to appoint suitably qualified consultants to undertake a pilot project to digitally map archaeological excavations in Dublin City and to prepare a feasibility study to examine options for web-based dissemination of this dataset and the potential for expansion of the GIS mapping to include other relevant archaeological data sources.
The objectives of the project are: - To develop a systematic and comprehensive GIS dataset of licensed archaeological excavation reports to streamline access to archaeological information by the profession and professional and non professional users.
- To raise awareness and facilitate spatial analysis of data, through the web-based presentation/dissemination of information at local, regional and national levels. This pilot GIS mapping project will be undertaken in association with the relevant stakeholders, notably the Heritage Council, the Department of Arts Heritage and the Gaeltacht, the National Museum of Ireland, Wordwell Press, publisher of the Excavations Bulletin and host of www.excavations.ie and the Institute of Archaeologists of Ireland.
