Abstract: This proposal is for the development of a community training programme of environmental improvements, heritage promotion and the development of a village or town’s attributes and unique tourist features. The training will support a process for engagement and mentoring service with the identified settlements and the implementation of a programme of supports for these communities. The training/ mentoring will be targeted at up to 10 rural communities that have not traditionally engaged with KLP.
Key Areas of Training
- Bio diversity training: Raise levels of awareness of biodiversity among the community groups,
Identify and explore ways in which the negative impacts on biodiversity can be ameliorated and the positive impacts enhanced
(particular weakness among the communities, link to village renewal actions
- Health & Safety Training: information session, link with Kilkenny County Council
- Social network tools training: Marketing and networking of community groups through the social media tools, facebook, flickr
- Tourist Town Criteria training:(based on Failte Irelands proposals including, Sense of Place, Local Involvement, Tourist Products Available, Development Promotion
- Recording DVD of each tidy town events: Showcasing exercise to promote the project to the wider population, highlighting the work of volunteers
Other Areas of support
Identify realistic project proposals for developing in tourism heritage based on local assets
Report for each community profile the unique selling point of each community in terms of biodiversity, habitat, heritage, tourism.
