Harvest of Irish Food - Tradition, Technology, Trends Food Journalists 2012nd Taste

Dublin is the City of Science for 2012 and this week it hosts the Euroscience Open Forum (ESOF). As part of this international event, Teagasc, in partnership with University College Dublin, Bord Bia and the Dublin Institute of Technology are hosting a Harvest of Irish Food event to showcase the unique combination of Irish food culture and tradition with the best of food science and technology in Ireland.
Taking place today, Tuesday 10 July, international scientists will visit:
· Teagasc Food Research Centre, Ashtown.
University College Dublin (UCD) in Belfield
Dublin Institute of Technology in Cathal Brugha Street
Trinity College Dublin
The event commences with an Irish summer breakfast in the Teagasc Food Research Centre, Ashtown.
Conversion of Irish Natural Resources to Food through Science.
Through demonstrations and parallel short talks, Teagasc researchers are presenting examples of how our understanding of food science contributes to developing new food products and ingredients that meet evolving consumer needs.
The Interaction of Food and Health
A number of short presentations will outline research at UCD in the area of targeted nutrition and developments of food products based on this research. A series of interactive workshops will outline practical applications of the research.
Tradition & Taste
At the Dublin Institute of Technology visitors will learn about and experience Irish Food products from the Past (the history of Irish food production), Present (interaction showcase and tasting of current Irish food products) and Future (research & development of food products in areas such as Molecular Gastronomy and Nutraceuticals).
Experience the best of Irish Food
Bord Bia will host the 'Irish evening dinner experience' in the famous dining hall in Trinity College Dublin. The menu will showcase the best of Irish produce sourced from sustainable and quality assured farms and artisan producers.
