New Books Worth Looking at from Canada - John Stanley

I have discovered two books that could be of help to you in business. One is focused on the farm market industry and the other on the garden industry and both are from Ontario in Canada

Pot It Up By Frankie Flowers {yes, that is his real name}

The garden industry today is about providing solutions for the consumer, not selling "stuff". Frankie, a retailer and grower based in Ontario, has produced a book providing 150 recipes for containers. He explains what plants go together to create a fashion look. What I like about this book is that it provides recipes for plant retailers. They are grouped by the seasons and include edible containers.

For example he has created "Spring Sense" as a container with Dusty Millar as the Filler, Fragrant Viburnum as the Thriller and Periwinkle, Pansy and Nemesia as the Spiller.

This book retailers at $26.99 Canadian dollars and is published by Harper Collins ISBN 978-1-55468-834-0 available.

The Ontario Table by Lynn Ogryzlo

This book features the best food from farmers around the Provence. It is a book of recipes and where to find them. A number of books have come out in recent months on local farm sourcing and the recipes, but, this is the best one I have seen and I believe it would be a great model for other farm producing areas to generate interest in local food.

I love the $10 Challenge in the book.

If every household in Ontario spent just $10 of their grocery budget on local foods each week, there would be a $2.4 billion dollar influx into the Provence economy each year.....worth thinking about.
