Coillte Welcomes Changes to REFIT Scheme

Coillte has welcomed the changes to the "REFIT" scheme announced yesterday by Minister for Energy Mr. Pat Rabbitte T.D. "REFIT", 'Renewable Energy Feed in Tariff' is the primary means through which electricity from renewable sources is supported in Ireland and Minister Rabbitte's announcement is designed to boost the development of wind farms providing green energy to the Irish National Grid.

Coillte is one of the largest developers of onshore wind generation capacity with 8 projects in 8 counties, and has a major role to play in the delivery of Irelands 2020 renewable energy targets. Jude Byrne, Director of Wind Energy at Coillte welcoming Minister Rabbit's announcement said "Wind energy is the largest driver of growth in renewable electricity and this announcement is significant for Coillte as it provides the policy certainty that is needed to unlock the potential of the wind energy sector, as a key contributor to our National Renewable Energy Action Plan."
